યાદ કરો 1986માં એશિયા કપની ફાઈનલ

ભારત વિરુદ્ધ પાકિસ્તાનને જીત માટે છેલ્લા દડાએ ચાર રન જોઈતા હતા. બોલ ચેતન શર્માના હાથમાં હતો અને સ્ટ્રાઈક મિયાંદાદની પાસે હતી. ચેતન શર્માએ આખરી દડો ફુલટોસ નાખ્યો અને મિયાંદાદે તે બોલ પર છગ્ગો ફટકાર્યો હતો. દિલની ધડકન રોકી નાખનારી મેચ બાદ પાકિસ્તાનમાં મિયાંદાદ હીરો બની ગયો અને ભારતમાં ચેતન શર્મા સૌથી મોટો વિલન બની ગયો. આ એક હારે ટીમ ઈન્ડિયા અને પાકિસ્તાનની મેચના માપદંડ પણ બદલી નાખ્યા હતા. ભારતના ખેલાડીઓ પર એવું દબાણ બન્યું હતું કે તે વર્ષો સુધી યથાવત રહે. ખેલાડીઓને પણ સમજમાં આવી ગયું કે દેશને પાકિસ્તાન સામેની હાર મંજૂર નથી. ચેતન શર્માના બોલ પર પડેલો છગ્ગો અને ત્યાર બાદ હારનું દર્દ ક્રિકેટપ્રેમીઓને વર્ષો સુધી રહ્યું હતું.

કાદિરની લલકાર, સચિનનો જડબેસલાક જવાબ

વખતની સાથે બદલો લેવાનો મોકો અને લાગણી બંને જ ભારતના ખેલાડીઓને શીખવા પડયા. આ સલાહ એ નવયુવાનને પણ મળી, જે પહેલી વખત પાકિસ્તાનમાં મેચ રમવા ગયો હતો. તમને યાદ અપાવીએ છીએ કે 1989માં સચિન તેંડૂલકર અને અબ્દુલ કાદિરની વચ્ચેના દિલચસ્પ મુકાબલાની. સચિને પાકિસ્તાન વિરુદ્ધ શરૂઆત કરી જ હતી. 18 વર્ષથી ઓછી ઉંમરના સચિને સ્પીનર મુશ્તાક અહમદની એક ઓવરમાં 2 છગ્ગા માર્યા હતા. ત્યારે મુશ્તાકના ગુરુ અબ્દુલ કાદિરે સચિનને પડકાર નાખ્યો હતો. બાળકોને કેમ મારી રહ્યો છું...મને મારી દેખાડ? સચિને કંઈ જ કહ્યું નહીં, ત્યાર બાદ ખુદ અબ્દુલ કાદિરે બોલિંગની કમાન સંભાળી. સચિને કાદિરની તે ઓવરમાં 4 છગ્ગા અને 1 ચોગ્ગો મારીને જવાબ આપ્યો હતો. દેશે તે વખતે જોયું કે પાકિસ્તાનને જવાબ આપવા માટે ક્રિકેટના ભગવાને અવતાર લીધો છે. હવે એ ભાવના વધવા લાગી કે જો વાર થશે, તો જબરદસ્ત પલટવાર પણ થશે.

વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદ અને આમિર સોહેલ વચ્ચે તકરાર

1996ના વર્લ્ડ કપમાં બેંગલુરુમાં ભારત પાકિસ્તાન વચ્ચેના મુકાબલામાં વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદ અને આમિર સોહેલ વચ્ચે તકરાર થઈ હતી. મેચમાં પાકિસ્તાનની પકડ મજબૂત હતી, ત્યારે આમિર સોહેલે વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદના બોલને બાઉન્ડ્રી બહાર મોકલી દીધો. ત્યાર બાદ સોહેલ ચાલીને વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદ પાસે ગયો અને બેટિંગથી બાઉન્ડ્રી તરફ ઈશારો કર્યો. કોશિશ એ કહેવાની હતી કે આગલો બોલ પણ બાઉન્ડ્રી બહાર મોકલી દેવામાં આવશે. બદલો લેવા માટે બેતાબ વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદે બીજા જ બોલે આમિર સોહેલની વિકેટ લીધી હતી. ત્યાર બાદ વેંકટેશના ચહેરાના ભાવ એવા હતા કે માનો કોઈ જંગમાં જીત હાસિલ કરી હોય. હવે વારો વેંકટેશ પ્રસાદનો હતો. પ્રસાદે સોહેલને ડ્રેસિંગ રૂમ તરફ જવાનો ઈશારો કર્યો હતો. આખું સ્ટેડિયમ તે વખતો હજારો કિલોવોટના અવાજથી ગુંજી રહ્યું હતું.

libraries in Egypt needs our help

Let's show the world that libraries have a heart and can unite to help the Egyptian people rebuild their public libraries.  Two public libraries in Cairo, Egypt were senselessly destroyed this February by vandals who stole and burned the contents and left the two libraries in ruins.  Queens Library has a formal partnership with the Integrated Care Society which operates the network of public libraries in Cairo. Library professionals of Egypt are rallying cry to libraries and library lovers globally to help the Egyptian friends rebuild and reopen as soon as possible.  Together, the millions of people who support libraries worldwide can help reopen the doors to the information and opportunities that libraries provide to the people of Cairo.
